| Advantages︰ | Succimer is a relatively specific heavy metal chelating agent. It is an orally active water-soluble analogue of BAL.
Indications Lead poisoning Mercury poisoning Contra-indication Pregnancy Lactation Dosage and Administration The recommended dose is 10 mg/kg orally every 8 hours for 5 days, then every 12 hours for 14 days; do not exceed a dose of 1.8 g/day in adults. Adverse Effects Nausea, vomiting Diarrhoea or constipation Mucositis Rash Rhinitis, cough Mild and transient elevation of aminotranferase and alkaline phospholipase enzymes Succimer is excreted in the urine and therefore adequate renal function is essential.
